Djokovic Beats Nadal at Australian Open

Djokovic Beats Nadal at Australian OpenAfter 5hrs 53mins - the longest grand slam final ever - Novak Djokovic emerged the winner of the Australian Open in Melbourne, beating Rafael Nadal 5-7 6-4 6-2 6-7 7-5.

The final featuring the top two players in the world was set up after Nadal's triumph over his long-time rival Roger Federer, and Djokovic's victory against some grumpy Scottish lady called Andy Murray; and it was the seventh straight victory for the Serb in their recent series.

Following Nadal's first set win, Djokovic had the opportunity to end the match after getting his act together and taking the next two and earning match points in the fourth; but the Spaniard Nadal, cheered on by Spaniards waving Spanish flags - he's Spanish, apparently - rallied and forced the knackered looking Djokovic to go all the way.

It was an amazing display of skill and endurance from both players, and was top class tennis at his best.

The only negative was the TV coverage, which featured more unnecessary slow-mo action than an episode of Baywatch and Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes films put together. In the same way we were treated shots of Pamela Anderson running through the surf, and the Hoff's man boobs bouncing around, Djokovic's gurning and Nadal's fist pumping were endlessly replayed after EVERY point.

But ignoring the frustrated wannabe film director beaten down by his lack of talent and impotence, it was a superb display of everything you'd expect from two top class athletes, and made you look forward to the French Open.

Rafa Nadal Nearly The King Of Australia

Rafa Nadal Nearly The King Of AustraliaAfter over 3 hours of Tennis, Rafael Nadal has beaten Roger Federer 7-6, 2-6, 6-7, 4-6. The match had plenty of build up as the four best men in tennis prepared to face each other in the semi-finals as Novak Djokovic prepares to face Andy Murray in the semi-finals, yet it is Nadal who will be waiting at Melbourne to see who he will be facing to add to his 10 Grand Slam titles and his 2nd in the Australian Open after his win against Roger Federer in the final being regarded as one of the best Grand Slam Final’s in the Open Era.

In today’s semi-final, Nadal fell short in the first set as Federer powered through to win 7-6, but Nadal hit back to win the 2nd set 6-2 as Federer’s cracks were beginning to show through as has been in previous meetings between the two. The 3rd set was always going to be crucial and after a close tie break, Nadal took the set and advantage of the match, as he finished off the 16 times grand slam winner 6-4 as he looks to avenge Djokovic’s Wimbledon defeat and reclaim the Number 1 crown. But before that, Djokovic needs to get past eager Andy Murray who is yet to win a grand slam title and is hungry for the match against Djokovic on Friday.

UFC - Jose Aldo KOs Chad Mendes at UFC Rio

UFC - Jose Aldo KOs Chad Mendes at UFC RioBrazil's Jose Aldo retained his featherweight championship by knocking out the previously undefeated Chad Mendes at UFC 142 in Rio.

Having never even lost a round in his 11-0 MMA career, Mendes was seen as a serious threat to Aldo's position atop the division. Entering with his ludicrously named 'Team Alpha Male' teammates jumping around and whooping like a bunch of clichéd frat boys from a shitty movie, Mendes appeared confident.

After feeling the power of Aldo's leg kicks Mendes attempted multiple takedowns with no success, before managing to gain standing back control. All was going (reasonably) well for Mendes until 8 seconds from the end of round 1 when he loosened his grip and Aldo took his chance to spin out of the grapple and KO Mendes with a knee to the face, followed by strikes on the ground.

Referee Mario Yamasaki stopped the fight at 4.59 of the first round, and Aldo celebrated by sprinting out of the cage and into the crowd, where he was swarmed and eventually carried back to the octagon on their shoulders.

"I was so overcome with emotion that I wanted to celebrate with my people," said Aldo - who is now 21-1 in his MMA career and on a 14 fight win streak.

It was a spectacular end for one of the best pound for pound fighters on the planet, and a sad one for Mendes who suffered the first loss of his career. But c'mon, Team Alpha Male? Also, Mendes' nickname is ‘Money.' We're glad he lost.

Boxing - Khan Claims to be Cheated by Mystery Man

Boxing - Khan Claims to be Cheated by Mystery ManAmir Khan has alleged that an unidentified man is guilty of interfering with the scorecards of his fight with Lamont Peterson last month.

Khan lost to Peterson 113-112, 113-112, 111-114 on the scorecards after being docked 2 points for persistent fouling, and he now claims that those scorecards were tampered with between rounds, and that this individual was seen speaking to WBA supervisor John Welsh. Following the fight Khan appealed the outcome, and the hearing is due to be heard later this month. Khan's business manager Asif Vali said that they have reported this information to the authorities.

"We don't know who the official is. We've asked the question, we've written to Washington DC and we're still waiting for their response, and we've written to the IBF and they've still not responded.

If the answers are legitimate, fine, we'll accept them. If they're not legitimate, then we hope the rematch takes place, and if the rematch takes place, all this can be squashed."

Reports that during the fight this mystery man also repeatedly punched Khan in the face, forced him to foul Peterson, and covered his ears so that he couldn't hear the referee's numerous warnings remain unconfirmed.
