The countdown is gearing up, and with 9 days to go we are wildly excited to share with you the Wide Open Space 2017 Arts Program.
Wide Open Space Festival is presenting some of the most creative, colourful, bizarre and brilliant acts to the desert for three days of celebration and unforgettable antics: April 28-30!
Kicking off with the opening ceremony, we will express thanks to the Arrente people that have cared for this country for many thousands of years. There will also be a bush medicine workshop where you can learn how to use local plants for healing, as well as a great program of local Indigenous bands. The famous WOS Cabaret leads the charge in the Performing Arts announcement, with their blend of feathers, glitz, glamour and a smattering of dumb fun.
The Bilbies have got the tea on the brew, the Dirty Word is testing the microphone and the Dusty Feet are working up the dust.
This year’s Visual Arts program is showcasing world class installations including an audio piece from local artists from the Watch This Space gallery, a custom built main stage installation from J9, as well as illustrations from the incredible Biota which will be perched around the festival. The house of the weird and wonderful – the Red Room returns again to deliver a program of spoken word, workshops and late night sideshows.
The Family Program will take place in our newly designed and built Octopoly Play Dome Kids Space, which was dreamt into being by local artists, Wagtale.
With space for activities, play, workshops and nestling down when you need some time out, it’s the go-to kids’ zone during the glorious days of Wide Open Space as well as hosting the Friday night disco! Don’t forget to step into the Little Creatures Photo Booth to reveal your true colours and walk away with photographic proof of the animal within!
Wide Open Space are proud to bring such a diverse program of arts and culture to our tribe, in this remote location in the ancient centre of Australia. Join in and celebrate desert culture through these incredible artists bringing their visions to life with words, workshops and visual expressions of festive creativity in spirit of community!
