Get the Party Started with Exciting New Features from Spotify

Get the Party Started with Exciting New Features from SpotifySpotify for those who haven’t yet joined the revolution, is an award-winning digital music service that gives you on-demand access to over 15 million tracks, making all the world’s music available instantly to everyone, wherever and whenever they want it. Spotify makes it easier than ever to discover, manage and share music with your friends, while making sure that artists get a fair deal. This week sees the launch of their new gapless playback and crossfade features for all Spotify users as part of the latest upgrade, which begins rolling out this week.

Gapless playback lets the songs flow seamlessly, one to the next, without any silent spaces in-between – perfect for dance and classical music, live recordings and concept albums.

Spotify’s latest update will have gapless playback switched ‘on’ by default in Preferences, letting you listen to your music the way it was meant to be heard.

Another much-requested feature coming to Spotify is the ability to crossfade songs – fading out one song as you bring another in. Perfect for parties – now you can DJ to your heart’s content!

You can select the exact number of seconds you want your songs to crossfade (from 1 to 12 seconds) by visiting your Spotify Preferences and flipping the ‘on’ switch.

Record producer and DJ Paul Oakenfold’s already a fan: “I use Spotify daily,” he says. “Many of my own releases are mixed so I’m delighted to hear Spotify will now offer gapless playback and crossfade so my fans can experience the mixes on Spotify in the way they normally do in the clubs.”

The full features list for this release includes:

Gapless playback (‘on’ by default)

Crossfade support (turn ‘on’ via Preferences)

Faster artist browsing

Better sorting of albums & top hits

New save and restore feature for ‘Now Playing’

Improved Subscribe, Buddy List and Favourites options

Drag & drop fixed on Windows

‘Hide purchase buttons’ option (Premium users only)

‘Offline Mode’ via Spotify menu

Gustav Söderström, VP Products at Spotify, adds: “Gapless playback and crossfade have been some of the most eagerly awaited Spotify features on your wish list.

“Whether you’re listening to Wagner’s Gotterdammerung or The Wonders of the Deep by The Chemical Brothers, this latest update will make Spotify better than ever before. It’s time to get the party started.”

We’ve started rolling out the new release of Spotify today. As soon as we’re ready to update your account, Spotify will ask you to restart.
