Olympic Flame Lit In Greece For The London 2012 Games |
 The London Summer Olympic Games are well and truly on their way to the UK as the Olympic flame has been lit in Ancient Olympia, Greece. The ceremony involved actors dressed in ancient Greek costume, twirling around and doing moves that looked like they were in a beginner's yoga class. The actors continued the performance by using a mirror to capture the sun's rays to fire up a flame on the Olympic torch for a relay that will take the Olympic torch from Greece to Britain.
Greece's Liverpool-born open water swimming champion, Spyros Gianniotis, is the first out of 490 torchbearers to get his hands on the flame to carry the torch on its first leg of the 1,800 miles on Greek soil for the 2012 Olympics. The Olympic torch will arrive May 18th 2012. In Britain, amongst the 7,300 people to carry the torch is Jack Otter, a soldier who lost both legs and his left arm in Afghanistan, and Diana Gould, a 100-year-old woman. London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Lord Coe mentioned the Games were there to "connect the world in a global celebration of achievement and inspiration". If you are heading your way to London for the Games, expect your personal space to be invaded this summer whilst travelling to and from events, as tube trains will be packed with sweaty betties and how you're going to even move to get your phone to use the free wifi that is going to be installed on the tube is beyond us.
