Explore Australia from the inside out with Adventure Tours Australia’s Rock to Reef Tour.
With Australia being one of the largest countries on earth, it may come as no surprise that the terrain can vary greatly. From the dusty, arid Red Centre to the lush tropical rainforests of Queensland, Adventure Tours’ Rock To Reef Overland tour will take you on one heck of a journey through some of Australia’s most wild and untamed territory.
Australia’s Red Centre
Your adventure starts in Alice Springs where you’ll have the pleasure of visiting the stunning Uluru as well as Kata Tjuta (formerly known as The Olgas). This leg of the tour will enable you to see the rusty Red Centre in all its dramatic glory whilst you get to know your fellow tour mates who you’ll be sharing your epic journey with.
Whilst visiting the Red Centre you will learn about the land and the local Mala people by taking an interpretive walk with an Aboriginal guide who will provide information on the most ancient culture on Earth. After this you will also have the chance to purchase some genuine Aboriginal arts and crafts at the Cultural Centre before camping overnight in the Watarrka National Park. But don’t stock up with too much, as this is just the beginning of your journey.
Early the next morning you’ll be in prime position to explore Kings Canyon. Through a 6km hike through the Canyon you’ll discover the Lost City and the Garden Of Eden – epic names for some epic locations. Immersed in stunning scenery, you’ll want to take as many photos as possible so you have lasting memories of the epic landscape before returning to Alice Spring to embark on the next part of your journey.
Go Off Grid
After a day of rest and recovery in Alice Springs it’s time to hit the dusty old road. And when we say dusty, we mean dusty! The road that takes you over the border from the Northern Territory to Queensland is mostly an actual dirt track and is one of the most remote routes in the entire world. After a long day’s driving (total of 9 hours) you’ll arrive in Boulia, Queensland.
Rainforests & Waterfalls
Driving from Boulia to Hughenden and on to Cairns, you’ll see the landscape transform from dry desert to lush rainforests leaving your memories of the arid Red Centre far behind. As you make your way to Cairns you’ll have the chance to experience the lush rainforests. As we drive through the Atherton Tablelands we stop for a swim at Millstream Falls and then onto Porcupine Creek before arriving in Cairns where you can make your onward travel arrangements and perhaps explore the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef.
Should you be starting your journey in Cairns this 7 day tour is also available in reverse.
