The line up’s out, the stage is ready, St Kilda Festival is kicking off this weekend in Melbourne!
The New Music Stage is an exciting platform for Australia’s hottest new talent which aims to support unsigned artists and the growth of the Australian music industry.
This stage offers our nation’s best new talent the opportunity to play at Australia’s largest free music festival on Sunday 12 February, with an overall crowd attendance of more than 400,000 expected on the day. The City of Port Phillip is proud to once again produce the renowned annual festival, focusing on cultivating and promoting emerging musical talent Australia-wide. Port Phillip Council Mayor Bernadene Voss is delighted the festival plays such an important role in artist discovery. “St Kilda Festival continues to provide a foundation for up-and-coming artists to build on their experience in front of large crowds. Year in and year out, it promotes some of the most exciting and talented new acts in the domestic industry so we are very eager to see what 2017’s line-up brings to the stage,” Cr Voss said. Ten unsigned acts have been chosen to play on the New Music Stage.
The crowd favourite will be taking home $5,000 and a spot on the St Kilda Festival Main Stage in 2018. Audience voting opens at the Festival and closes the following Friday, 17 February. Votes can be made through the festival website and the St Kilda Festival smartphone application. The New Music stage has hosted some of Australia’s hottest talent in the early stages of their careers, from Client Liaison to Stonefield and The Vaudeville Smash. Each year it is one of the most popular stages of the day and continues to be a career-launching platform, fostering our home grown talent. Port Phillip Council Festival Producer Adele Denison said: “We’re extremely excited to welcome these 10 acts to the New Music Stage next year, and encourage all Festival goers to head to the stage to discover their new favourite Australian artist.”
