Travel Byron Bay

One of Australia's most famous destinations, and is easily the most popular spot in New South Wales outside of Sydney.

Byron Bay's reputation certainly precedes itself, with the small and amazingly picturesque town billed as the hippy capital of Australia.

While its residents may not be ‘hippies' in the traditional Seventies sense, there certainly is a laid back vibe to the place, and you can immediately notice the pace of life drop dramatically if compared to cities like Brisbane and Sydney.

Sitting just below the Queensland border, Byron enjoys some of the best weather in New South Wales, and there are literally miles and miles of beaches on which to sit back and soak up the sun.

The beach life is the mainstay of Byron, and this is a fantastic location for surfing, both for learners and pros. There are heaps of surf shops where you can rent and buy boards, and the locals will be more than happy to help you out with tips. It's also great for diving and snorkeling, with an abundance of marine life, including its notorious sea turtles - a dive with these creatures is a must for anyone making a trip here.

Set under the eye-catching Cape Byron Lighthouse, the town may only be small but there is still plenty going on.

There are countless stylish bars, restaurants and cafes where you can chill out with a schooner or a coffee in the afternoon heat, as well as a nightlife that belies its size.

Byron Bay, with its fight the power mentality, is a town that has refused to sell out, not allowing massive chain brands such as McDonalds to open stores there. That means that all the cafes, shops and restaurants are locally owned, usually using local produce, making for a healthy and refreshing change, and guaranteed quality.
