Having been announced for Laneway, get ready for a double dose of fun when GIVERS and Portugal. The Man bring their bright breed of psych-pop to Australia early next year for a series of co-headline shows! GIVERS' ‘In Light' is a vibrant debut album, perfect for the warm summer months ahead and bursting with invigorating melodies, shifting rhythms and an abundance of energy as many will know from their revitalising singles ‘Up Up Up' and ‘Meantime'. The Man released their much anticipated sixth album ‘In The Mountain In The Cloud in July 2011. Filled with pulsing riffs and rings true to the buoyant rock and roll style that has permeated each album since their 2006 debut. What: Givers (USA) And Portugal. The Man (USA) - Laneway Festival Sideshow One of Australia's great cult bands, The Necks, are back and touring off the back of a new album. Called "one of the greatest bands in the world" (New York Times) and described by The Times in the UK as being "a fairly safe bet to say that no other group in the world sounds quite like The Necks", the new album ‘Mindset' is the 16th to be released by the multi-ARIA winners. The trio, made up of Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums) and Lloyd Swanton (bass), conjure a chemistry together that defies description in orthodox terms. The deceptive simplicity of their music throws forth new charms on each hearing. Not entirely avant-garde, nor minimalist, nor ambient, nor jazz, the music of The Necks is possibly unique in the world today. What: The Necks He's a founding member of the legendary west coast hip hop crew Jurassic 5 and the hugely successful posse Ozomatli. Cut Chemist also collaborated with DJ Shadow and is regarded by all as a virtuoso of decks, cuts and loops. Now the turntable extraordinaire brings his envelope-pushing live show to Australia for his cut ‘n' scratch audio-visual blowout; ‘Sound of the Police'. This is Cut Chemist at the peak of his powers, a master craftsman, creating some of the wildest slabs of music you have ever heard. Accompanying Cut Chemist is a long-time visual collaborator, Tom Fitzgerald, the virtual founding father of LA's Cinefamily and king of disintegrating digital video deconstructions. What: Cut Chemist (USA) Mayer Hawthorne, the crooner from Stones Throw records has just made the jump to Universal Music for his second album entitled ‘How Do You Do?' His debut LP ‘A Strange Arrangement' lit a fire across the world for its faithful interpretation of classic genres like Soul, Blues, Country, Doo-Wop and Rock n Roll. Earlier in 2011 he released a free EP of covers including works originally by Chromeo (who have also remixed current single ‘A Long Time'), Isley Brothers, ELO and more. Hawthorne is known for creating modern day versions of ‘throwback' soul influenced by Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes and Smokey Robinson.
